A new initiative has been launched in northwestern Ontario to help people with mental health illness find meaningful employment.
The collaborative program is being spearheaded by the Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation.
Executive Director Dr. Trina Foster says individuals with a serious mental health illness face the highest degree of stigmatization in the workforce, and significant barriers to employment.
Foster notes the unemployment rate among those living with a serious mental illness is between 70% to 90%.
She stresses the need for support programs is higher in this region.
Job seekers can access the service by attending any Employment Ontario office.
