The distracted driver enforcement campaign by the Ontario Provincial Police resulted in 20 charges being laid in the region.
Sergeant Mike Golding tells us the charges were laid in the Thunder Bay, Kenora and Fort Frances areas.
Golding admits the number of people charged is lower that what he was expecting but notes, the operation was meant to draw attention to the problem.
He says many people believe it’s still OK to look at your smartphone or text while you are at a red light or stop sign, but that is not the case.
