The Norah Love Children’s Centre in Sioux Lookout is set to close its doors for good after 35 years of operation.
Children and staff will say good-bye to the historic building at 5:30 this afternoon.
That’s because municipally-operated child care has been transferred to the Kenora District Services Board.
Services will now be run out of the newly renovated and expanded Sioux Mountain Public School.
Town Chief Administrative Officer Michelle Larose says the new home will be able to offer five more toddler spaces that weren’t previously available at the old site.
The Children’s Centre was named after Norah Love, a local pioneer in kindergarten programming in Sioux Lookout.
Norah Love opened Sioux Lookout’s first kindergarten in her home in 1957 and later moved to the basement of the Catholic Church and finally to Sacred Heart School.
The facility was named in her honour 35 years ago.
