With animosity growing daily between the teacher’s unions in the province and the Ford government, the premier is remaining steadfast.
With the real possibility of strikes looming before the next school year, Doug Ford is adamant that he was not the one who threw down the gauntlet.
He stresses he loves teachers and the work they do but notes it was the unions who declared war on his government, in his words, “before the ink was even dry on election day.”
Ford is asking the unions not to pull, as he puts it,” that strike nonsense on the parents and the poor students.”
He stresses any teachers walk-out would hurt parents and students more than the government.
Ford also blames the previous Liberal government for what he believes was a union friendly bargaining situation.
He says “isn’t it amazing how the previous government and the union sets a date of August 31st, right before the kids go back to school? I can tell you that’s never going to happen under our watch after we get through this.”
