Some extra funding for Ontario’s small and rural communities.
Over 400 will share in one-time funding from the province totaling $200-million dollars.
Municipal Affairs Minister Steve Clark says it’s to help them find efficiencies and improve on service delivery.
“I think it will help a local council that is smaller have that discussion about service delivery, have that discussion about expenditure containment,” says Clark.
Clark says larger municipalities are not eligible for the funding because smaller communities often don’t have the resources to make improvements.
“This one-time funding investment Ontario’s small and rural communities the support they need to become more efficient, to modernize service delivery, to avoid expenditure growth, and ultimately better meet the needs of residents,” says Clark.
Clark says he’ll leave it up to each municipality to decide how it wants to use the money.
How much money a municipality will receive will be based on the number of households they have.
