Brad William West
“WESTY”
January 3, 1974 – October 17, 2017
It is with broken hearts, that the family of Brad West announces his passing at the age of 43 on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side. He lost the lengthy battle against a very rare Cancer which he fought courageously against with so much strength and dignity.
Survived by his loving wife Marianne, children Noah (15) and Miya (12); mother Lynda (Jim) Lake; father Howard (Virginia) West; brother Kurt (Cathy) West and nephews Michael, Adam and Josh; grandparents Helen West and Doug Lake; stepbrother Nick (Kristi, Solana, Finley) McRae; along with numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
Brad was born in Cranbrook, BC and grew up in Wasa, BC until he moved to Dryden in 1986 and called it home. Dryden is where he made so many of his life long friendships. Spending his teenage years at Dryden High School, playing football, enjoying life and throwing some pretty memorable parties. He met the love of his life, in 1996 at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, ON. In 1998 after they graduated from Law & Security, he moved Marianne to Dryden with him. They married in 2001 and soon added a son and daughter to complete their family. He worked a few jobs before landing his career as Recreation Maintenance for the City of Dryden Arena and proudly served as a Volunteer Firefighter for the City.
He loved the outdoors and spent most of his spare time with his family and friends camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed reading survival/wilderness books and watching the shows, he really thought he was the next Survivor Man. He also loved collecting knives, listening to Country Music, singing while making up words to suit the moment and coaching Hockey. He enjoyed going out to his parent’s house for family dinners, joking around and giving his mom a hard time about her wicker furniture, doilies and china.
You couldn’t have found a more genuine, honest, caring, funny guy, he was always smiling, his loud voice and laugh were contagious. He could find the good in every situation and made all the good times even better. Brad was truly an amazing man who will forever be missed by those who were lucky enough to know and love him.
Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Brad’s Life will take place Friday November 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. in the Agricultural Centre.
