The NDP has come up with a plan it hopes will “bear” out.
They are proposing ways to keep bears and the public away from each other.
They want the Tory Government to give Northern and rural municipalities the 1.8-million dollars it earns from the bear hunt to programs designed to control nucisance bears.
NDP leader Howard Hampton says the goal would be to compensate municipalities based on the severity of the problem.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP says many bears are finding their way into built-up areas.
An aide to Natural Resources Minister Jerry Ouellette says the government is willing to consider the idea, but would wait for comprehensive review of the bear situation in the province.
