A groundbreaking ceremony was held today in Thunder Bay for Ontario’s first new Medical School in more than 30 years.
The Northern Ontario Medical School is now expected to open in the Fall of 2005, a year later than expected.
The former Conservative Government delayed the opening of the School last Summer saying there were problems with accreditation.
Premier Dalton McGuinty says the new School will ensure Northern students can stay in their communities as they train to be Doctors.
Between now and 2006, the Province will spend $95.3 million on the school.
It will have 56 students at campuses at Thunder Bay’s Lakehead University and Sudbury’s Laurentian U.
