The fire that destroyed the historic Minaki Lodge may have been accidental.
Greg DeGagne, of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, says investigators are still awaiting key information from a forensics lab in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Lodge was empty when the blaze broke out at about 3:30 in the morning of October 12th destorying the main building but leaving guest rooms and a restaurant basically unscathed.
The Resort’s Caretaker, sleeping in a cottage a few hundred metres from the Lodge, called for help after awaking to loud popping sounds.
A final report from the Fire Marshall is not expected for several more weeks.
