Roy Anderson was born April 13, 1943 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He lived in Richer, Manitoba, moving to Camp Robinson before the family settled in Red Lake Road. Roy married Linda Ogden from Vermilion Bay in 1964. Together they had two boys Neil and Derek. They built the Northside Motel and both worked as they managed the motel. Roy cut wood and drove truck for Hoey and McMillan. He also drove truck for Colenso Lumber, Naden Boats, George Kupper and Louis Ricci before driving for the Municipality of Machin until he retired. Roy also owned Bayside Builders for 5+ years.
Upon retiring Roy became Chairman for the building of the Centennial Pavilion in Vermilion Bay. The Lions Club, of which he was a member, worked along with Burton Penner from the peeling of the logs to the finishing touches of installing the barbeques, building the picnic tables and the boardwalk. He was very pleased with the work that the club members did so willingly and was proud of the final accomplishment.
Roy was one of the Lions who helped with the Community Garden across from the Co-op. He was a Lions Club member for 40 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge for 40+ years and a Khartum Shriner.
Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years Linda, son Derek (Ange), grandchildren Kayla, Trista (Chris), Kierra, Kyle, Tessa and Thorn, great grandchildren Cheyanne, Kylie, Joseph, Baylee and Paige, siblings Janet (Jim) Penner, Syd (Lise), Gail (Lawrence) Knourel, Ken (Lena), Debbie (Ike) Reimer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Syd and Mary Anderson and oldest son Neil who passed away in 2015.
A Memorial Funeral Service was held Thursday February 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Vermilion Bay Lions Hall with Mr. Dean Block officiating. A Masonic Memorial Service was held prior to the service. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.
