In loving memory of Else Wilhelmina Rottler “Oma”, who passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on the 26th of December, 2016.
Else was born on April 28th, 1928 in Weissenburg, Germany to Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Dorner.
She moved to Canada in 1956, living first in Kenora and then moving to Dryden where she, along with husband Herman, raised their family.
Her faith was very important to her; she seldom missed a service and always participated in church events. Christmas services were a favourite and she especially loved singing the hymns.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making hats, mitts, socks and sweaters for family as well as the church.
Her summers were spent working in her big garden, tending to her flowers and picking blueberries. She was always willing to share the harvest with family, friends and neighbours.
Her family was the main part of her life and she would drop everything to take time to visit. She always had baked goods on hand and everyone had their favourites which included her cottage cheese cake, butter cream torte and Christmas cookies to name a few; but no one could forget her apple pancakes.
Else is survived by her husband Herman, her children Klaus (Tracy) Rottler of Dryden, Sandra Rottler of Winnipeg, Herbert Rottler of Dryden and Peter (Nicole) Rottler of Calgary. Her grandchildren Stephanie (Tye Martel), Kurtis (Amanda Nisula), Kristin Rottler, Madison Rottler, Katherine, Erin, Rebecca Rottler and great grandson Archer Martel and special family friend Robin Corner.
Also surviving are her sisters Hildegard Kress, Helga (Hans) Hartman of Germany; sister-in-laws Erica Kunisch of Germany and Helga Goertzen of Kenora, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Else was predeceased by both her parents and an infant daughter.
A Memorial service will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at the church. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Lutheran Church Building Fund through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON, P8N 2X3.
