Gerald (Gerry) Alexander Mazurski
July 2, 1945 – October 7, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Mazurski, who passed away suddenly at home on October 7, 2024, at the age of 79. Gerry was a beloved husband to Anne and father to Marney and Bradley. A friend to many, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and fun-loving sense of humour.
Born on July 2, 1945, Gerry grew up in Fort William and attended both Fort William Collegiate and Westgate High School. He developed a love of motorcycles, fast cars and girls. He enjoyed playing football and outdoor sports. Gerry attended college for accounting and met Anne while in school. They married in Thunder Bay and after graduation moved to Winnipeg where he worked for Revenue Canada. They later settled in Dryden raised their family. Gerry embarked on a career in the Dryden paper mill as a steam engineer. Prior to retirement in 2002, he worked in the training department.
Gerry was an avid fisherman. Throughout the years he regaled those around him with tales of fish lost, and thoughts on the need for more rods. He had a feisty spirit, and a sarcastic wit. Whether it was through helping his colleagues fix some random piece of equipment or volunteering his research and engineering perspectives on how to build any and all manner of household systems, Gerry made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him with his humour and caring. He and Anne spent many hours of time with his sister Donna and his brother-in-law Bill, on fishing and travelling adventures. He enjoyed being the agent provocateur with his nephew Kyle and niece Jenny among others.
Gerry is survived by his wife Anne, and children Marney (Scott) and Bradley (Jamie), and their children. He is also survived by his sister Donna (Bill) Hampe and brother Allen (Karen) Mazurski and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Madeline, and his older brother Wilbert Mazurski.
Gerry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
A memorial service will be held on a later date to celebrate Gerry’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gerry’s honour to Dryden Regional Health Centre Equipment Fund, PO Box 3003, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z6.
