The Dryden Eagles football team won its first game of the season in the Winnipeg High School Football League, but just by the skin of their teeth.
The Eagles prevailed 30-29 Friday afternoon against the Churchill Bulldogs.
Dryden trailed 21-17 at halftime.
The Eagles got touchdowns from Zach Wearne and a 56-yard TD run from Raynor Powell.
In the second half Dryden got a one-yard touchdown plunge from Wyatt Smith and Powell had a six-yard romp for a major as the Eagles took a 30-28 lead.
The win wasn’t guaranteed though as the Eagles turned the ball over with 4 seconds left.
The Bulldogs attempted a field goal, which went wide for a single point and Dryden held on for the victory.
The Eagles stay of the road next week as they play the Tech Voc Hornets on Thursday, before returning home on September 20th, for their first home game.
