The provincial police in Kenora have arrested two people following a traffic stop in the community.
On Monday officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle following an investigation led by the Ontario Provincial Police’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, with assistance from the OPP Kenora Community Street Crime Unit, OPP Kenora Detachment and Treaty Three Police Service.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately $400,000 worth of fentanyl.
The vehicle’s occupants were both placed under arrest.
As a result, a 20-year-old, and a 23-year-old from Brampton have been charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
“The fentanyl seized is believed to have been destined for Kenora and the surrounding communities,” said the OPP in a release. “Short-term rental facilities can be used in the offence of Drug Trafficking. If you are a landlord and suspect drug trafficking is taking place within a property you manage, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122”
It’s unclear if the accused were held in custody or not.
