Nipigon Fire #36 has been upgraded to being held.
The wildfire was first reported on August 20, 3.5 kilometres south of Kasabonika Lake First Nation.
FireRangers have made progress in decreasing the size of the blaze to 38.8 hectares down from 46 hectares.
Over the weekend hoselines were deployed on the perimeter of the blaze that was previously the biggest out-of-control forest fire in the region.
Meanwhile, there are two new forest fires in the region.
Sioux Lookout Fire #35 is located just under six kilometres northwest of Kingfisher Lake First Nation.
The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.
Dryden Fire #13 is located just west of Amesdale Lake and the 0.1 hectare fire is currently being held.
There are 35 active wildland fires in the Region.
Of those fires, one is not under control, two are being held, one is under control and 31 fires are being observed.
The wildland fire hazard is mainly moderate to high across the region, with a band of low hazard spanning across the centre of the Red Lake district, and around Thunder Bay.
