Hoselines are being deployed on the perimeter of the largest out-of-control forest fire in the region.
The fire was first reported on Tuesday night, approximately 3.5 kilometres south of Kasabonika Lake First Nation.
“Two FireRanger crews, supported by a helicopter, are taking advantage of low fire behaviour over the past few days to establish hoselines on the fire’s perimeter,” said the Ministry of Natural Resources in a release.
When the fire was first reported it grew quickly in size and it was moving towards the community.
An air attack package consisting of three waterbombers and a Birddog escort were initially deployed.
They were relieved by a second air attack group of two waterbombers who continued working on the fire until dark.
On Wednesday, two crews of Initial Attack FireRangers and a helicopter were assigned to the fire.
According to the MNR Aerial suppression was effective and the fire exhibited lower fire behaviour Wednesday through Friday.
The wildland fire hazard is moderate to low throughout the southern half of the region, with high to extreme fire hazards remaining in the far north of the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon fire management areas.
