The Dryden OPP were responsible for about half of the charges laid in the northwest region during the August Long Weekend for a traffic safety campaign.
A total of 451 charges were issued by the Dryden Detachment.
Speeding was the most common offense with 275 charges laid.
Staff sergeant Mitch Davis says they traditionally have the highest numbers in the region.
“One thing the Dryden detachment does very well is focus on the traffic campaigns for every single long weekend throughout the summer,” Davis told Dryden city council recently.
“We’re always number one in our region for the amount of charges laid. We’re either number two or three in the entire province.”
Davis adds that they have a program that shows where most of the charges are coming from.
“Most of them are just people basically going through town on our highway. That’s where guys are picking a lot of the people off for these charges during the campaign.”
There were also five seatbelt charges laid, one charge for impaired driving and one for distracted driving.
