There’s a different kind of forecast local residents that head outdoors this weekend have to pay attention to.
It’s the mosquito forecast.
Entomologist Taz Stuart says the mosquito populations will be heaviest in Kenora and Dryden, but lighter in Fort Frances and Thunder Bay.
“I hate saying this when it’s hot and humid, but wearing light coloured clothes, long pants, long sleeved shirt…it’s a benefit to you,” suggests Stuart.
“Use a product with DEET. Of course, if you jump in a lake, you have to reapply. It’s very, very important. That personal protection is key.”
Stuart adds that the hot, humid weather we’re experiencing is a mixed blessing.
“Mosquitoes, just like humans, if it’s hot and humid, they’re going to be resting during the day. It’s the time when it’s dusk and dawn when they’re going to come out and be most active. That’s when you need to do your personal protection measures.”
