Financial support for affordable housing is coming to northwestern Ontario and Indigenous communities across the province.
The federal government has announced a total of $84 million in funding and low-cost loans through the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) that will go towards building 231 new homes and repairing 4,966 affordable homes.
“This is about building an economy that is fair to everyone, especially younger generations,” said Thunder Bay-Superior North MP, Patty Hadju. “We’re taking action to keep homes affordable in Northern Ontario so that young people too can afford them. This investment will also help First Nations communities build and repair homes according to their own priorities.”
A total of 79 different projects are receiving between $16,752,000 and $15,000.
Kenora received $16,752,000 the most funding handed out. These funds are going towards a 56-unit senior residence on Eighth Street South.
Dryden got the second-highest amount of funding coming in at $12,024,929 for a 40-unit Senior Residence.
A total of $5,436,266 is coming to Thunder Bay to support the District of Thunder Bay Social Services board and a local shelter.
In the Fort Frances area, Mitaanjigamiing First Nation and Couchiching First Nation are both receiving $150,000 for repairs.
