There are nine active forest fires in the region three of which are new.
The biggest of the new fires is Sioux Lookout Fire #13 which is 10 hectares in size and is currently being observed five kilometres west of Tokar Lake.
Red Lake Fire #8 is just over 5 hectares in size and it is burning 25 kilometres west of Deer Lake. It is listed as not under control.
Thunder Bay is also dealing with a small 0.5-hectare fire that is under control 37 kilometres northwest of Lake Nipigon.
The wildland fire hazard is moderate to high across most of the Northwest Region with a pocket of extreme fire hazard stretching from the Manitoba border into Red Lake.
