The new riding of Kenora-Kiiwetinoong will have a familiar face running for the Conservative Party.
Kenora MP Eric Melillo has picked up the nomination.
Melillo says the new riding has pretty much the same boundaries as the old Kenora Riding.
“This riding will still cover nine municipalities and 38 first nations, so it’s still a very large riding,” states Melillo after securing the nomination.
“Not a major change in the boundaries, but of course the new name, Kenora-Kiiwetinoong, is something that folks are going to have to get used to. That’s probably the biggest change for most people…the new name.”
Melillo adds that he’ll be ready to run whether there’s an early election or not.
“We make sure we’re making our phone calls and lining up volunteers. That’s always something we’re doing. We start that as soon as one election is over…preparing for the next one. So, whether the election is on schedule or called early, that’s out of our control. We’re just going to do our job as the opposition and hold the government to account.”
The next federal election is scheduled for the fall of 2025.
