Gordon Gilchrist Dingman
December 2, 1946 – July 5, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gord Dingman at DRHC with family and friends at his side. He has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
Gord was born in Windsor, Ontario where he met the love of his life, Bobbie. They married and later welcomed a daughter, Beth, to complete their family.
Gord started out as a property assessor, working for the Province of Ontario, Ministry of Finance. Gord’s love of nature and outdoor life led him to request a transfer to a “northern” office. This resulted in him relocating his family to Dryden 3 years later. January 1972 was the beginning of his love affair with this part of the country. Until the age of 50 when he took an early retirement to enjoy life, he spent most of his working years in Ear Falls and Red Lake. He made many friends there and even after retiring, he would make a trip just to visit and have coffee.
He became restless and decided he needed something to do so he went to work at Egli’s farm helping to build fencing and the animal park. When that project was done 2 years later, he looked around for something else to do and found his dream job, working in the plumbing and electrical department at Canadian Tire. He stayed there, only resigning when he became the mayor of Machin.
When Gord moved up here, he came into his own, and initially with the guidance of his good friend John Hatfield, he learned to enjoy hunting, fishing, camping and even trapping. Later on he looked forward to his yearly moose hunting trips with Greg Murray and Erik Smit.
He had a great sense of community, served on many committees, always willing to help anyone who asked. He was also an involved member of the Vermillion Bay Lions, and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
Until his dementia became overwhelming, he lived life to the fullest.
Gord was predeceased by his mother Catherine, father Gordon and sister Jean Beaton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bobbie [Roberta], his precious daughter Beth [Dan] and beloved grandson Logan.
He also leaves to mourn his passing his cousin Bob [Beth], godchildren James and Jessica, brother-in-law Sandy, and nephews Drew [Holly] and David [Kate] and their families.
We want to thank the nurses, doctors and kitchen staff at the DRHC for the loving care they provided for Gord.
There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Dryden First Baptist Church at 1pm with Pastor Adam Hall officiating.
