A high school student created her prom dress entirely from Duck Tape and won a $15,000 scholarship.
Monica Walsh from Dryden spent 126 hours and 13 rolls of colorful tape making a unique and eye-catching prom dress. It was inspired by Romero Britto, an artist who uses contrast and colors.
The creation earned her a spot in the ‘Stuck at Prom’ scholarship contest hosted by the Duck Tape brand. This contest is international and had dozens of entries.
After judges selected the top ten finalists out of over 150 entrants, voters picked Walsh’s pop-art style dress and her first-place win was announced today. $15,000 is the largest Grand Prize awarded in the contest’s history.
Hard work and dedication paid off, as the money will help with pursuing a post-secondary education. Walsh graduated from Dryden High School in June and will begin her post-secondary education at Lakehead University this fall.
