The bike unit is now up and running for the OPP in the City of Dryden.
Sergeant Erin Huckell says they had a training session recently for the officers who want to take part in the unit.
“We had our three day, eight-hour a day, course,” Huckell told Dryden city council recently.
“There were two courses that were run. So, there’s 10 officers trained. We have five bikes. It’s (bike patrol) perfect because we can ride the trails…we can go in and out of alleyways.”
Huckell thinks it’s useful to have the bike patrol on the street.
“You know the places that we might have problems and we’re out there on the bike. Kind of give a little bit of a stealth approach that they don’t see us coming. So, it’s perfect having the bikes out there. I enjoy the bikes.”
The Dryden OPP has five bikes for the officers, which were donated by the Dryden Native Friendship Center.
