The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is projecting a balanced budget for the next school year.
The public board held a special meeting Thursday night and approved a budget of just over $113.5 million.
Richard Findlay is the Superintendent of Business and says much of their budget is based on student enrolment.
“For next year, we’ve projected 4,720 full time equivalent students,” Findlay explained to the trustees at the meeting to approve the budget.
“This is down approximately 12 full time equivalent students from the actual student enrollment count dates in the 2023/2024 school year.”
Findlay says for all intents and purposes they have a balanced budget.
“Overall, I think this is a good news budget. It’s a balanced budget. It supports all of our students and aligns with all of our board’s business statement and mission statement and the strategic plan.”
Director of Education Christy Rabourne says board staff are to be thanked for the months that was put in to preparing the board’s fiscal document.
“A tremendous effort on the part of our Board finance team given the many changes to the budget funding formal and grants this year. We are pleased we are able to continue to fully support KPDSB priorities in student engagement, attendance, and achievement for the 2024/2025 school year.”
Board chair Roger Griffiths adds that he’s also pleased with the budget as presented to trustees.
“Staff worked incredibly hard to come up with a balanced budget in challenging budget times. We are proud to present a balanced budget that supports the newly approved 2024-2029 Multi-Year Stategic Plan.”
Overall, total revenues next school year are projected to increase by over 5 million dollars or 4.7 percent.
