The Fort Hope First Nation (Eabametoong) to working to get it’s dog population under control.
It’s estimated that there as many as 600 dogs in the community of 1,600 people, many running loose.
Earlier this month, PetSmart Charities of Canada and volunteers from Cat Lake went to the community to conduct as animal wellness clinic.
Along with a veternarian team, they were able to provide care for 84 dogs and cats.
Fort Hope is working on a dog management plan which includes a by-law limiting the number of dogs per household.
