Mary Louise Lyle
February 27, 1947 – May 17, 2024
Our family is saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Mary Louise Lyle on May 17th, 2024, at the age of 77.
Mary was born in Dryden on February 27, 1947, to Wesley and Mary Shaffer. She was a twin with her sister Alice and had 6 other siblings.
Mary grew up in the Dryden area and three of the girls were born in Dryden. She moved to Churchill, Manitoba, for a short time where Annette was born. The happiest moment of her life is when she moved to Powell River, B.C. and blessed this world with her beautiful baby boy Billy. (guess who wrote this)
Mary loved to sing and dance. When she was younger, she would have friends over, and someone would be playing guitar and mom would sing. She once had the chance to go live with an aunt and have vocal training, but she declined since she was too shy to go. I remember Mom had a book and she would always write song lyrics so could later sing them. If she didn’t know the words she would learn them fast. Mom was very sociable, she made new friends wherever she went.
Mary had some interesting jobs in her lifetime that took her to some beautiful places and met some interesting people. She worked in a remote northern camp for oilfield workers in the Northwest Territories where there was 23 hours of sunlight in the summer and 3 hours of darkness in the winter. She was a helper on a haul truck which worked hauling on the frozen Fraser River.
She loved to travel and made many trips out west to visit her daughters and grandchildren. She visited her son in many places he was living such as Mexico and Texas. She was even married in Las Vegas.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Bill Lyle, daughter Lorraine Larson (Jim), Michelle, Della, Annette, Billy (Kathe), 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
We take comfort knowing Mary is now at peace.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 10 a.m. with Velma Henderson officiating at the Dryden Community Funeral Home.
Interment to follow in the Dryden Cemetery.
