Alice Beatrice Pakarinen
September 13, 1929 – March 30, 2024
Alice Beatrice Pakarinen of Wabigoon, Ontario passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side at Princess Court, Dryden, Ont. on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the age of 94 years.
Alice had an indomitable spirit and a sharp mind and the life she lived displayed those characteristics. She loved to read, was always interested in travel and during her life she visited Coff’s Harbour, NSW Australia, Scotland, as well as took numerous trips in Canada to Nova Scotia, Alberta, and British Columbia.
At home Alice was known as an extraordinary cook so anyone who visited her was welcomed with the delectable smells and tastes of cinnamon buns, bread, and pies. While visiting one
could always be convinced to have a cup of tea and after that have the tea leaves read Alice’s way of giving sage advice. Wherever one looked a love of nature was evident in and outside her home. Plants trailed the walls inside, and large plots of lilies and rose bushes graced Alice’s yard.
A devout Christian, Alice lived a life of service to God and to her community. Always generous in spirit Alice volunteered much of her time to many different clubs. In Wabigoon she was president of the Anglican Women’s Committee, and she started the Friendly Circle. She was involved in TOPS and The Canadian Forresters, volunteered at Sunday School and organized the senior suppers, handwriting each invitation.
At Christmas she was Mrs. Clause visiting the elementary school to the delight of the students. Alice cooked and baked for numerous suppers and teas- a life well lived she will be greatly missed in her community.
Alice is survived by her nine children: Meta (Don) McDonald, Randy (Josie) Pakarinen, Alan(Tracy) Pakarinen, John Pakarinen, Ken Pakarinen, Shawn (Shirley) Pakarinen, Kerry Pakarinen, Mark Pakarinen, Shelley Pakarinen. Cherished grandchildren: Jayna, Brittany (Cody), Mandy (Alex), Mallory (Steven), Ryan (Nadia), Matthew (Camilla), Jason, Jennie (Darren), Nicole (Mark), April (Alan), Shannon (Tyler), Christopher, Whitney (Trevor), and Chelsea. Precious great-grandchildren: Ethan, Aaron, Beckett, Ellis, Juliet, Roman, Bode, Libby, Frankie, Joshua, Eden, Aisling-Grace, Mikayla, Isabelle, Alexander, Meghan, Anna, Mila, and Beckham, her sister Virginia, and many friends.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Pete, daughter Roberta, and grandsons Jesse and Jarrett.
Much gratitude to the staff at Princess Court and the Dryden Hospital for the care Alice received in her final days. Alice’s family will host a Celebration of her Life at The Wabigoon Memorial Hall, 10700 Hwy 17, Wabigoon, Ontario on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm with a graveside service to follow in the Wabigoon Cemetery.
