One of the biggest sporting tournaments of the year in Kenora takes place this weekend.
The North American First Nations Tournament of Champions starts tomorrow night and runs until Sunday.
The hockey tournament will be taking place at both the Bowman Electric Keewatin Memorial Arena and the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.
A total of 14 teams are entered in the open category including Eagle Lake to the east, Manitoba to the west and even Rankin Inlet in Nunavut to the north.
There are also 10 teams entered in the Oldtimers division and five in the Women’s competition.
Action begins in Keewatin at 5:45 Thursday night with the final game scheduled for 7:00 Sunday night at the Thistle Rink with the Open championship game.
$25,000 in up for grabs in the Open Division, while the winners in the Oldtimers and Women’s will each win $5,000.
