The Northwestern Health Unit is looking how to fund it’s vaccination programs.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon doing immunizations remains important, but they have to find a way of paying for them.
“We are thinking that to sustain the program you need to look at funding more closely,” says Dr. Young Hoon.
“That’s one of the things we’re doing now. The Northwestern Health Unit, compared to the average health units across the province, does administer substantially greater proportion of vaccinations in our catchment area, than other health units.
Dr. Young Hoon adds that means, it’s spending more to offer their immunization programs.
“We’re just trying to think through how to sustain that when budgets are tightening.”
Dr. Young Hoon say in other Health Units, more vaccinations are done elsewhere like doctors offices and pharmacies.
