A youth from Sioux Lookout is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police.
On Sunday evening Ontario Provincial Police officers noticed an SUV driving with its headlights and taillights off after dark in bad weather.
Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop to address the safety issue, but the vehicle fled.
Officers later found the vehicle in Alcona and again attempted to stop the SUV, but during the second stop attempt, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into a dense bush area according to police.
With assistance from members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Canine Unit, the driver was located, identified, and arrested.
The 17-year-old accused has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Failure to Comply with Release Order
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on Tuesday.
