Environment Canada says almost 20 centimeters of snow has fallen over the past 24 hours.
Steven Flisfeder is a meteorologist and says two different weather systems are responsible for all the snow.
“You’re main system, that began yesterday, was an Alberta Clipper,” points out Flisfeder.
“You’re starting to tap into some moisture from the southern United States, so it’s a bit of a hybrid system. Generally speaking, the bulk of the snow has been the Alberta Clipper.”
In the meantime, Flisfeder says a snowfall warning remains in effect for parts of the region.
“The increased amounts of snow compared to the usual type of weather you’d get from an Alberta Clipper is really because of that inflow of warm, moist air from the United States.”
Flisfeder says the snow should taper off by tonight, and we can expect mainly sunny conditions for the rest of the week.
