The Milestone skating oval remains closed due to warm weather.
The main rink has re-opened, but the city has been having trouble getting the other surface to a usable standard.
“With unseasonably warm weather we have run into challenges pretty much all winter so far, (and) we are seeing spikes almost weekly, where we are getting temperatures above freezing,” explained Jason Boyer the city’s manager of community services. “With an outdoor structure like this, you get a lot of sun on there, and even at minus 2 out with the sun on it, you see that the ice starts melting and evaporating.”
Boyer added that it’s been a challenging winter but city staff are constantly working on the rink to try and get it open for residents, but there is no set timeframe for when the surface may re-open.
