Two traffic stops made by the Ontario Provincial Police east of Dryden have resulted in drug trafficking and weapons charges for two people.
The first occurred on Sunday at 3 p.m. when police stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 near Wabigoon.
While speaking with the male driver, officers discovered he was in possession of an undisclosed prohibited device as well as a number of illicit substances including cocaine, methamphetamine, psilocybin and hydromorphone.
The 32-year-old from Sioux Lookout was also found to be in possession of stolen property however, police did not disclose what that property was.
Charges include:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Hydromorphone
- Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Psilocybin
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – in Canada
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
He was held in custody until a court appearance Wednesday.
Meanwhile, second stop also took place at 3 p.m. on Highway 17 in Melgund Township, this time on Tuesday.
An investigation by officers resulted in a search of the vehicle and its occupants with officers seizing an undisclosed quantity of cocaine and an undisclosed piece of stolen property.
A 37-year-old woman, which police have declined to give a home community of, was arrested on charges of:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
She has been released from custody and will appear in court on March 18th.
