Conrad Frederick Schneider
February 9, 1938 – January 25, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Conrad Frederick Schneider in Dryden on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Sheryl Schneider, and Kim Rae (Ken), three grandchildren, Angela Schneider, Amber Rae (Luke) and Holly Rae. He was predeceased by is wife Joyce (nee Bartlett).
Con, son of George and Katie Schneider, was born and raised in Dryden. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at age 17 as an avionics technician and was stationed in Borden, Cold Lake, Sea Island, North Bay and Bagotville. He and a friend travelled to Australia and New Zealand where they worked for a year with the New Zealand Telephone Company.
Con returned to Dryden where he met Joyce in 1962 and they were married June 15, 1963. He had reenlisted and was posted to North Bay and then Bagotville. Con and Joyce returned to Dryden in 1967.
Con worked as an electrician at Dryden Paper; in maintenance at Dryden Board of Education; as a manager of Town of Dryden Waterworks Department and ended his working days as a Fire Ranger for the Ministry of Natural Resources. He loved the camaraderie of his work with MNR – being outdoors and the helicopters which brought back fond memories of his air force days.
Con was very social and participated in all sports through high school and during his air force career. He bowled, golfed, and curled both socially and competitively for many years and took an active part in Branch 63 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Once he retired in 1997 Con and Joyce spent winters in Apache Junction Arizona where he golfed, played both recreational and competitive shuffleboard and enjoyed visiting the casinos, dancing, and sharing never ending happy hours and meals with friends and visiting family.
His circle of friends was extremely large with people from all walks of life. Everyone he knew was treated equally; he kept up to date on news, politics, sports, and any other subject under discussion. Con was firm in all his beliefs and didn’t hesitate to state his opinion on any given subject.
Con will be lovingly remembered by his family and missed by all who knew him.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held.
