Grand Council Treaty #3 is joining a long list of organizations congratulating the in-coming premier of Manitoba.
Wab Kinew was elected Monday night.
Kinew is a member of the Ojibways of Onigaming southwest of Kenora and his father Peter Kelly (Tobasonakwut) is a past grand chief of Treaty #3.
Frances Kavanaugh was re-elected as grand chief the same day Kinew was elected premier and Kavanaugh he’s like a nephew because of the close ties the families have had over the years.
Kavanaugh says he was overjoyed to see Kinew lead the NDP to victory.
Treaty #3 adds that many elders remember Wab Kinew as child and says his ascension to premier of Manitoba is an immense inspiration to youth, not only in the area, but across Canada.
