Gareth “Gary” Charles Thorne
June 19, 1936 – September 26, 2023
Gary passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Gary was predeceased by his parents Myrtle and Harry Thorne, brother David, wife Elva, son David and son-in-law Ross Sarvis.
Gary is survived by his children Heather Sarvis, Laurie Ann Browning (Dave), Jill Lafreniere (Todd), and James Thorne, five grandchildren Jenna, Levi, Dakota, Dawn, and Ross, three great-grandchildren Raylynn, James, and Jonah, and little fur friend Jake. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as our dearly loved foster daughter Valerie and family.
Gary had a love for education for all his kids and grandkids. He helped teach English and literacy and loved walking to see his dog friends and the frogs and turtles at the creek. He was an instrument mechanic in the Dryden Mill for many years. When he retired after twenty years of work, he and his wife traveled to the states, then decided to stay in Canada. Their favourite place to go was in Osoyoos, British Columbia, where they went every year for twenty years.
He loved playing Mahjong with his friends every Wednesday, cooking meals and hanging out with his family and friends. He had a long battle with cancer and fought fiercely. Now it’s his turn to go visit and be with all his loved ones in heaven.
Gary will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Internment for the late Gary Thorne will take place at a later date.
