In loving memory of Louis Salina, age 89, who passed away peacefully at Princess Court LTC with his loving family by his side.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, who happily shared 67 years together, and his children, Charles (Connie) and Jodi Langlais (Paul). Grandchildren Kailee Ernewein, Steven Ernewein (Mateo), Cody Salina, and one nephew John Colliss (Dorothy), of Surrey, British Columbia.
Louis is predeceased by parents Carlo and Pierena Salina, sister Josie Hardy (Norman), parents-in-law Eric and Grace Colliss and brother-in-law Jack Colliss (Florence).
Louis was born in Dryden on May 11, 1933 but grew up in Dyment until moving back to his hometown where he attended Dryden High School. After graduating, he attended the University of Winnipeg until returning home to start his career at the Dryden Mill in 1954. His first years were spent in the Time Office and later as the Safety Superintendent. Louis met the love of his life Barbara Colliss at a Wabigoon Hall dance in 1954, and by October 1955, they were married. In 1958, Charles was born, followed by Jodi in 1961. Many summers were spent at the cabin on Thunder Lake with Auntie Josie and Uncle Norm, along with a month-long trip in 1974 to Italy with the whole family. After his retirement in 1993, Louis and Barbara enjoyed travels to Phoenix, Hawaii, Jamaica and a few more trips back to Italy. Time spent with family was always important to him.
For 25 years, Louis was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Dryden. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Dryden Lions Club. When he wasn’t fighting fires or attending club meetings, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, curling and spending time with close friends. You could often find him walking with his buddies over the overpass every morning on their way to A&W for coffee where many stories were spun, whether true or not.
