LONNIE MIHALICK
April 13, 1955 – June 5, 2023
With sadness we announce that Lonnie passed away on June 5, 2023.
Born in Fort William, ON, this blue-eyed bundle of joy was the second son to John and Sylvia Mihalick. The family remained in the area until Lonnie was five, then moved to the wonderful town of Dryden, ON, where Lonnie remained for most of his life.
Lonnie was a comedic, adventurous, and athletic young lad. He started participating in sports at an early age which kept him busy for many years. Judo, hockey, Basketball were favourites throughout the 70s.
As Lonnie grew older, other interests percolated to the top of his life. Fishing was a passion that fueled him. Lonnie spent many days, in the summer and winter, fishing with his friends and family. He loved the companionship that was part of the fishing experiences. Repairing, maintaining, and refurbishing Grain Elevators, as well as constructing gas stations, and handyman work throughout Canada gave Lonnie a sense of purpose as he was able to repair, construct, and help others. His love of sports cars enabled him to venture throughout Ontario and through the northern states. He would drive, destination unknown, for the thrill of adventure.
Lonnie met a wonderful woman, Karen Lamarche, and they shared special years together. While living in various areas of British Columbia, they enjoyed exploring the BC interior through biking, hiking, and camping. Lonnie and Karen were honoured to share three children together, Jamie, Breanne, and Hudson. Family was the highlight of Lonnie’s life. He loved his children and, as they came along, grandchildren.
Lonnie’s legacy was his ability to be curious about all of life’s intricacies. He would always have questions for people about their life or interests. It was a pleasure to see people interact with him. Lonnie will also be remembered for his ability to recant a tale he had that day or week. A story teller he was, and the audience was always captivated to hear his jovial stories unfold.
This young man maximized his life potential. His passing leaves a vacancy in the hearts of many.
Lonnie’s Funeral service will be at 12pm on July 7 at 84 St Charles Street, Dryden (Dryden-Go-Getters Activity Centre).
