Sioux Lookout community residents are advised that a Restricted Fire Zone is in place, effective immediately.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry declared a Restricted Fire Zone for most of northwestern Ontario yesterday, as the region fights an Extreme forest fire hazard at this time.
Under an RFZ, no open-air burning of any kind is allowed and all fire permits have been suspended. That includes grass fires, debris, campsites, burn barrels, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits.
However, you can still use a portable gas or propane stove for outdoor recreational activities. But you cannot use a portable charcoal grill except within 100 metres of your home, on your property.
Residents are asked to use extreme caution at this time, especially with fireworks, propane and fuel-fired equipment, hot ashes and cigarette butts. Please make sure cigarettes are completely out before disposing of them.
