Members of the Dryden Eagles are asking the community for its support ahead of a provincial tournament.
The Dryden Eagles girls’ hockey team beat out the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints to win NorWOSSA gold earlier this month, and they’re now getting ready to head to OFSAA and represent the region in Stratford between March 20 and 23.
Fundraising co-chair, Heidi Compardo, explains a variety of fundraising events will be taking place to help offset the costs of the team’s trip.
“We have a lot of events planned,” she says. “We’re hoping to get a lot of people out and we’re really packing in as much as we can. The support has been overwhelming. We’re forever grateful for that!”
Tonight at 5 p.m., Dryden’s Royal Canadian Legion #63 will be hosting a spaghetti supper and auction to help offset the team’s cost, with packages donated by a variety of local groups and businesses.
Other events include a charity hockey game in Vermilion Bay, a Karaoke night at the P.I., a bottle drive, bagging groceries and collecting sponsorships and donations.
“We appreciate any and all support that is given to us. This event will be a lifelong memory for this team of exceptional young ladies that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. They will remember your support!” wrote the Eagles, on social media.
Cheques can be made payable to Dryden High School with attn: Girls Hockey on the subject line and mailed to: Box 40, Oxdrift, On, P0V2J0.
EMTs can be sent to lisa.koshel@yahoo.com with the name of the business or individual donating in the comment, and you’re asked to set the password as ‘Eagles’.
