Hazel Irene McMillan
1939 – 2023
In loving memory of Hazel McMillan, age 83 years, who passed away unexpectedly in the Dryden Regional Health Centre onThursday, February 16, 2023.
Born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, she came to Dryden with her family as a child. Her main employment was as a teacher at the George P. Vanier School and in retirement she spent many hours volunteering at the Dryden Food Bank.
Family was everything to Hazel. Memories were made picking blueberries, baking cinnamon buns, butter tarts, fruit cake and all sorts of cookies. A great cook, she was known for Christmas dinners for a gang but mostly for the family’s favourite meal of “Crub”. She excelled at knitting and crocheting and was able to whip up a “family” sweater in record time. She also enjoyed bending the rules by feeding “her” deer.
Hazel is survived by her son Bob (Ruth), daughter Kathy (Bob)Stevens, grandchildren: Cheri Rothlisberger (Yvo Lamarche), Kimberly Rothlisberger (Darren Chesky), Vanessa (Justin) Grenier, Rae-ann Stevens (Ryan Watkins) and Roger Stevens (Alex Beveridge), by great grandchildren: Ryker, Amalia, Jayce, Riley, Greyson and Isla, her sister Shirley (Rheal) Turpin, brother Ed (Norah) Turgeon as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Hugh, brother Joe Turgeon and sister-in-law Anna Mae Turgeon.
Cremation has taken place. A time of celebration of life for Hazel will begin Saturday, February 25th at 1:30 p.m. in the Dryden Community Funeral Home. A private Interment of ashes take place in the Dryden Cemetery.
