The Conservatives will support the health care deal reached with the provinces.
Kenora MP Eric Melillo says the extra money for the health care system is much needed.
“This has been something that has been a long time coming after eight years of the current Liberal government,” says Melillo.
“We’ve seen more than five million Canadians who don’t have access to primary care. We’ve seen wait times that are longer than they’ve ever been in decades. I think a lot of people see the gaps that exist in our health care system.”
Melillo adds that details are sparse at this time, but the injection of cash into the health care system is welcome.
“The new deal is certainly needed. (I’m) happy to see it has been reached and will certainly honor it and work with the provinces when we’re in government to strengthen and maintain our health care system.”
Under the deal, there is 42 billion in new money and 196 billion over ten years for the health care system.
