Youth from across the region are invited to Kenora and Sioux Lookout this weekend to try out for teams competing at the North American Indigenous Games in Halifax this summer.
Cami Carpenter from Indigenous Sport and Wellness Ontario says the are looking for athletes that specialize in soccer, baseball, softball, basketball and badminton.
“It’s for Indigenous youth, so First Nations, Metis, and Inuit, born between the years between 2004 and 2010,” says Carpenter.
“In Treaty #3, we have our hubs. It would be Kenora and for the northern communities it would Sioux Lookout. So we’re just trying to find central areas for Indigenous communities to come in for for their youth to try out. The tournament is going to be happening in Halifax this year.”
The Kenora tryouts will take place at the Sportsplex on Saturday and Sunday at the Beaver Brae Gyms.
There will also be tryout for kayaking and canoeing on Sunday.
