Few opportunities for advancement is being identified as one of the reasons people leave northern Ontario.
It is among the findings of a Northern Policy Institute study that explored why people leave the region.
President Charles Cirtwell says, “Toronto there might be a small ad firm that’s got six Vice-President’s and you can expect one or two of those folks to move out every couple of years. That firm’s probably 50% smaller here in northern Ontario so those folks, statistically speaking, those opportunities are going to come up less.”
Transportation was also a concern in the report.
Cirtwell says, “The ability to get around if you don’t own a car is a real problem identified in the survey. Lot’s of people were talking about the challenges of the bus systems, the weaknesses of them, unreliability, scheduling, lot’s of comments about that.”
Access to health care services was also cited as a factor to relocating.
