An important committee in Dryden tasked with strengthening local tourism and bringing people to the City is trying to raise its profile in the community.
The Dryden Trailblazers Tourist Association has been actively supporting local causes, events and organizations since 2021 through 50% of the money collected from the hotel accommodation tax.
Hotel Chair Michael Readman believes their work is highly important.
“Anytime you can drive additional tourism or traffic to a City through events and infrastructure, it benefits all businesses. Not just the hotels. Guests here are using our restaurants, they are shopping in our grocery stores, our local stores, they are purchasing gas and supplies.”
Readman adds, “While we’re improving the City for visitors it’s also improving the City for locals. I think it is very important. It’s a fantastic fund that is helping to do a lot of good.”
Some of the projects the DTTA has supported include downtown beautification, new targets for the Dryden Conservation Club, new benches and sitting areas near the waterfront as well as the Tagged Fish Contest, Canada Day activities and Fall Fest events.
The group consists of business owners, City Council, Chamber of Commerce, hotel managers and City staff.
Meantime, planning a trip to Dryden and wondering what you should see or do?
There’s support now in place with the launch of the Trailblazer online App.
Readman says, “It showcases Dryden, its local businesses and a lot of the highlights of the region. Visitors can download the app and they can see what Dryden has to offer with the touch of a button.”
The goal is also to boost tourism in the community.
