Some changes to electricity pricing are being introduced in Ontario.
A new ultra-low overnight rate is to be in place next year.
The move is to help support the growth of electric vehicles.
The province is also piloting a new program for small and medium sized businesses and farms that are included in the Class B electricity rate class and don’t have access to time-of-use or tiered rates.
It will test in the new year alternate pricing models that encourage users to shift their electricity use to hours where demand is low.
Minister of Energy Todd Smith says the pilots will help inform the government on potential benefits to lower electricity bills for all customers.
The Ontario Energy Board plans to open applications for the program by the end of the year.
