Some financial support for Hoshizaki House in Dryden.
A $2,000 donation has been made by Unifor, part of a $158,000 commitment to help 78 other shelters across the country.
Local 324 President Katrina Peterson represents 20 members at Hoshizaki House and says, “Unfortunately violence against women continues to afflict society now more ever exasperated by the last few years of the pandemic. It is imperative we all support Hoshizaki House and the life saving role they provide for vulnerable women and children in the Dryden area.”
Peterson adds there is a growing awareness of the problem of domestic violence, but unfortunately much work remains in keeping women and children safe from abuse.
Carol Jolicouer is Chair of Unifor Local 324 Women’s Committee and says, “Local shelters provide life-saving assistance as frontline providers of crisis services to women and children who are living with domestic violence. Unifor’s donations in Dryden and across Canada are going toward a very worthy cause.”
The union has long supported the Hoshizaki House.
The funding announcement was made on December 6 during a local vigil to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Montreal Massacre and National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
