Provincial Police are reminding motorists to take the time to prepare themselves and their vehicles for safe winter driving.
There have been a number of fatalities on the road in northwestern Ontario in recent weeks.
Constable Mark Foster says first and foremost, adjust your driving to the conditions.
“Just because the speed limit is set at a certain limit the road conditions might dictate that you travel slower. Its just important to keep that in mind.”
Police say slowing down, staying alert, keeping distance of other vehicles and staying in control can help reduce the number of winter weather-related collisions on our roads.
Foster adds, “If the snow is blowing and it’s a snow storm you might be able only to see the red tail lights on some of the vehicles. It is important, if the conditions are changing, putting your headlights on even if it is during the day.”
He says plan your trip before going by checking road and weather conditions.
Foster also recommends having a survival kit in your vehicle that includes a shovel, blanket, clothes, and food.
