A new survey finds that more work is needed to teach kids on reconciliation with Indigenous people in the public education system.
The Ontario Public School Boards Association says despite some positive feedback, 25% of respondents say they aren’t doing a good job.
Association Chair Cathy Abraham says the numbers and findings from the poll aren’t great.
“It tells us that ‘A’ the work we are doing we need to talk about it more and ‘B’ be quite up front about the work we have done but we have a lot of work to do.”
Chair of the Indigenous Trustee’s Council Elaine Johnston says the findings aren’t surprising.
“We’ve been hearing and also talking as the Indigenous Trustee Council that there needs to be more relationship with the First Nations and also there needs to be mandatory curriculum.”
